If you are thinking of setting up a business why not consider leather crafts as your initial start up? It requires little investment and you can practically do it at home. All you need to do is get some leather craft kits and start with the basic and common leather things that you can easily sell.

The leather craft business is good because you would be making assorted things out of leather. These are the common things used everyday by most people like leather wallets, purses, belts, fashionable bracelets or necklaces. Most start up kits have pre-cut parts so all you have to do is sew them together as per instructions. Then you can add your personal touches like adding some adornment of glitter, beads or other pretty trimmings to make them unique.

Since you are starting with small items, you can do more of them. The idea is to work on them carefully and intricately. You can have them in different designs, colors and shapes. You can show your finished products to your friends. Usually word of mouth is a good method to spread your business around.

You can also join community fairs or handicraft exhibitions around your area. These are also good ways to advertise your products. You can also link up with a local franchise to sell your products.

Make use of the internet and make your own website about your lit. The internet is the fastest way to link to almost everywhere you want to showcase your products. Take pretty photographs and make good descriptions of your leather crafts so people would be interested in them.

As long as you make your crafts in good quality you won’t fail in this business. Most people have a particular attraction to leather because of its versatility, durability and attractiveness. That alone can make your business prosper so keep those factors in mind.

Everybody loves leather furniture. There’s something about leather that say quality and class. Leather looks especially classy and striking when set against a polished wooden floor. It seems to communicate that the owner of the house really cares about the effect he or she is trying to achieve.

But no matter how good a piece of leather furniture looks when new it will keep its looks only if it is cared for properly. When the leather is new, the material has oils which keep it supple and looking good, giving it that famous sheen. The point of caring for leather is to keep it that way. The best way to do this is simple: keep the leather moist as you would any type of skin. One way to do this is to clean it with a mild soap. This is especially effective if the soap contains glycerine. This will really help to keep the leather moist and keep the leather very soft. This will also make a leather sofa a joy to sit on.

As you clean the leather, make sure the water is as clean as possible so as to avoid dirt being put back into the leather. In order to reach into difficult areas, use a soft toothbrush. The main thing to remember is to never use strong detergents when cleaning leather. These really do much more harm than good. And it’s always a good idea to never dry your leather with artificial heat, or allow the leather to dry in sunlight. This can cause the leather to become dry and result in cracking.

Once the leather is clean, use a commercially-available leather conditioner to finish the job properly. Do this and your leather furniture will continue to look good for years to come. Bear in mind that different environmental conditions will require more or less cleaning.

Sometimes your leather goods need a little help and you have got the urge to dye or paint it. With dye, it is pretty straight forward, but if you want to paint it there’s a little more involved to make it look good.
Whenever you are attempting a project like this, always test it out on a scrap piece first. When using different pigments, be sure to let one dry before adding the next color.

Use water-based acrylic paints designed for leather because they are more flexible than ordinary acrylics. If painting the entire surface of the leather, check to see if your leather goods are vegetable-dyed, as they absorb the paint better than leather goods tanned by other methods. Not sure if the leather goods are vegetable-dyed? Test a scrap piece to see how well it absorbs the paint. Begin by cleaning the leather goods, using a solution of one ounce of leather bleach to one pint of water, applying the solution with a soft brush or wool dauber. You can also lightly sponge the leather with water prior to painting in order to ensure a more even absorption of color. Do not soak it, just get it damp.
Applying the Paint You can paint over a large area of the leather goods or just a small part for highlighting effects. If you want to do the former, paint over the leather first with a water-diluted solution of the paint. In this way, you will prepare the surface of the leather goods to receive the undiluted paint. Use one part paint and one part water, and apply in broad, even strokes with a wool dauber. Add more water if the leather is not absorbing the solution, and more paint if the color is not showing sufficiently. Two coats of the solution should be applied, leaving sufficient time between coats for the paint to be absorbed but for the leather to still be somewhat damp and not dry. Try this out first on a scrap piece of leather and take your time.
